1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
2. Place the chocolate squares in the top of a double boiler and set over hot water until the chocolate melts.
3. Mix the shortening, sugar and eggs together.
4. Blend thoroughly.
5. Beat in vanilla, milk and melted chocolate.
6. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together and stir into the first mixture.
7. Blend well.
8. Drop from teaspoon onto a greased baking sheet.
9. Place 3-inches apart.
10. Dip the bottom of a glass into a mound of sugar and gently press each cookie to flatten.
11. Bake about 10 minutes.
12. Remove from the baking sheet with a spatula and cool on a wire rack.
