1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
2. Grease a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
3. Beat the shortening and sugar together.
4. Blend in the eggs and fruit into the shortening and sugar mixture.
5. Sift together the flour, salt and baking soda and add it to the wet mixture.
6. Add in the walnuts and mix well.
7. Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto the greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
