1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream the shortening, sugar and egg in a large mixing bowl.
3. When the mixture is light and fluffy, stir in the crushed pineapple with juice.
4. Sift the flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg together and stir into the batter.
5. When the mixture is well blended, stir in the chopped walnuts.
6. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
7. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
8. Cool on wire racks.
